Twigg Exploration and Mining Limitada (“Twigg”) a subsidiary of Syrah Resources Limited (“Syrah”), hosted its 'Mine Open Doors' programme at the Balama Graphite Operation. This quarterly initiative, established at Balama in 2017, was designed to enhance transparency, promote safety awareness and demonstrate environmental stewardship. By fostering meaningful community engagement, the programme provides valuable insights into natural graphite extraction and mineral processing to the communities and other stakeholders around Balama.
Held in celebration of International Children's Day and World Environment Day, the most recent event welcomed community members, including children and dependents of Twigg employees, to experience firsthand, the operations at the Balama site. The visit offered the children a unique opportunity to see where their parents work and learn about Syrah’s mining process in a fun and interactive way.
The children participating in the programme were given the opportunity to safely tour the facilities under the careful guidance of our trained, competent and authorised personnel. From witnessing graphite processing techniques to understanding the importance of safety protocols and environmental care.
The programme was meticulously planned with safety as the utmost priority. All children underwent a thorough safety induction before participating. Additionally, activities such as tree planting were included to promote environmental stewardship, reinforcing the program’s commitment to sustainability.
The 'Mine Open Doors' programme at Twigg, now in its 16th edition, stands as a testament to Syrah’s commitment to community engagement and education.
